Virgil van Dijk stands as the 262nd most famous person in the world, a position he has held steady since the previous cycle, while also claiming the title of the 2nd most famous person from Netherlands. These placements within the iFANN Global Fame Rankings reflect his enduring status across global media and cultural consumption. Beyond these numbers, his legacy is woven into the very fabric of Liverpool FC and the Dutch national team, where he commands a massive following without a singular, distinct fandom name attached to him alone. His supporters are simply the passionate ranks of Liverpool fans or the devoted Oranje nation, united by their admiration for his leadership on the pitch.

The mythology surrounding Van Dijk includes the legendary phone call from Steven Gerrard in 2017, a pivotal moment often retold as the catalyst that brought the defender to Anfield. This story remains a cornerstone of modern football lore, celebrated annually by those who witnessed the transformation of the club's defense. In August 2026, this narrative was further cemented by the announcement of the film project titled Captains, which features Van Dijk alongside club icons Steven Gerrard and Graeme Souness, marking his transition into foundational club history. Even new arrivals like Ronald Araujo look to him as a primary role model, highlighting how his influence extends beyond statistics into mentorship and culture shaping.[แก้ไข]

Before his rise to stardom, Virgil served as a ball boy for NAC Breda during his childhood years. He credits his sharp tactical awareness on the pitch to being an avid chess player off it. Following a broken nose in a match against Everton in 2017, he famously wore a protective face mask for subsequent games. His first goal for Liverpool arrived as a dramatic 95th-minute winner in the Merseyside derby in December 2018, instantly endearing him to the Kop.

A defining piece of football folklore involves the phone call between Steven Gerrard and Van Dijk in 2017, widely believed to be the decisive factor in his historic transfer to Liverpool. Fans continue to recount this conversation as the moment that changed the trajectory of the Premier League. More recently, his status as a legend was solidified when he was included in the upcoming Liverpool FC Original film titled Captains, joining legends like Gerrard and Graeme Souness in a tribute to the club's captains. This project highlights his evolution from a player to a central figure in the institution's identity.[แก้ไข]
