Boy's Abyss

Reiji Kurose spends his days feeling suffocated in a rural town where every adult seems to be hiding a dark secret. He believes escape is impossible until he spots Nagi Aoe, an idol performing under the stage name Acrylic. Her popularity offers him a brief respite from his depression, but that hope quickly curdles when Esemori enters the picture. This mysterious woman identifies Reiji's vulnerabilities and systematically drags him into a web of obsession, toxic relationships, and buried generational trauma.

Ryō Minenami crafted this psychological seinen as a stark departure from his previous lighter works like Hatsukoi Zombie. The narrative unflinchingly explores suicidal ideation and the crushing weight of societal expectations on youth. Critics often compare its intense focus on psychological decay to The Flowers of Evil, noting how it critiques small-town stagnation without offering easy answers. The series concluded its four-year run in July 2024 after spanning 18 volumes. [แก้ไข]
