A Great Chaos

October 13, 2023 marked the arrival of Ken Carson's third studio album, A Great Chaos, a project that arrived via Opium and Interscope Records to cement his status as a leading voice in rage rap. The 18-track record pushes maximalist production to its absolute limits, relying on glitchy, digitized beats that feel both cluttered and precise. Producers like F1lthy, Lil 88, Star Boy, Outtatown, and TM88 constructed an aggressive soundscape where hedonism often clashes with sudden bursts of vulnerability and angst. Horror imagery runs through the lyrics, creating a chaotic atmosphere that mirrors the title while allowing Carson to explore themes of trauma and success without losing his edge.

Critics immediately identified this release as Carson's breakout moment, noting how it transcended typical genre tropes by injecting goofy levity alongside emo melodrama. While some listeners found the production dense, major outlets praised the album for flipping the script on Atlanta rap influences and establishing a unique artistic identity distinct from his mentor, Playboi Carti. The lead single "I Need U" dropped on Valentine's Day 2023, setting the stage for a project that would debut at number 11 on the US Billboard 200 with 48,000 album-equivalent units. By April 2025, the album had accumulated 1.3 million units worldwide, eventually earning Platinum certification from the RIAA in August 2025. [แก้ไข]
