Ryan Reynolds says the path to playing Deadpool felt set in stone during the Blade: Trinity (2004) shoot. A studio exec from a different company caught a glimpse of his work and offered a bold prediction: "Trust me, if they ever make a movie about Deadpool, you're the only guy that can play Deadpool." To back up the claim, the executive mailed him a bundle of Deadpool comics. The very first book Reynolds cracked open held a panel where the antihero remarked that he resembled a mix of Ryan Reynolds and a Shar-Pei. The synchronicity was too weird to ignore. Reynolds recalled his immediate reaction to the strange coincidence: "I was like, 'Jesus, this is fing destiny. What the hell?'"
