Hal defeated Sinestro and took his ring, then lied to the Guardians claiming it was destroyed. He currently possesses two rings total. The one with gold trim Hal uses is actually Sinestro's ring, which already had the gold trim since it was infected with fear before he even got it. Lanterns Theory
