@jolyonHome daycare providers in NYC are getting a direct lifeline. Mayor Mamdani is putting $3 million into emergency grants, with around 500 providers able to apply this year for amounts between $1,000 and $10,000. The cash is for sudden crises, think a burst pipe or storm wreckage, that could otherwise force a closure. Across the city, more than 6,000 home daycare providers, overwhelmingly women of color, look after over 100,000 kids while pulling in about $6 an hour per child. The grants are a piece of the mayor’s universal childcare plan, which is set to be running by year’s end. Small program, right instinct: government actually showing up for the people holding the childcare system together. #ZohranMamdani
